  • Be a current ROTC student
  • Have or about to enter their Junior or Senior year
  • Have ranked in the top 20% of the commander’s order of merit listing (OML)

What is the history of the National Society of Scabbard and Blade?

Scabbard and Blade is a nonprofit organization dedicated to our nation’s military officers. They were founded during the school year of 1904-05 by five cadet officers. From these five, they have grown to over 137,000 cadet officers! The society is dedicated to developing aspiring and current military officers that emulate the Five Star qualities while fostering strong joint-service relationships. Their vision is for members to redefine the standard of excellence for all military officers.

Based on the information, here is our review:

Our first observation is: that this is one of the only scholastic military honor societies to exist.

Our second observation was: that this society is not only dedicated to the betterment of our troops, but to ensure they have the tools they need after their service in the military is over, as well. 

Our third observation was: from the original five who founded the society, NSSB has grown to over 137,000 cadet officers.
