4 Ways to Be Ready For When Life Gets Messy

Jun 02,2015

In the past I spent years trying to organize, prepare, and calculate all of my daily moves. Everything from employment to school to what I want to do on the weekends... List after list after list and years of planning finally became exhausting. Sure planning is fine, but what about unexpected events that arise? What about learning to "dance in the rain" and enjoy life as it happens? Is it possible to be a planner and still live life as it comes? I used to think people had to choose structure or chaos, then I became a mom and learned how to embrace both.

Now I live by three sayings. These sayings are,

1. Life is too short

-not to try new things like unique foods, exploring new places, or meeting new people

-not to tell your friends and family you love them, regularly

-not to enjoy what you're doing in life especially in school, at work, and in relationships

-not to ask for something you want like a promotion, a spot on a hiring committee, or an opportunity to meet with someone you admire (Question: What is the worst they can say? Answer: NO)

2. Don't be paranoid, be prepared

-do your best to have  backup plan in the case an unexpected emergency occurs at school, work, and within your family unit

-always have essential phone numbers memorized just in case you lose your cell phone

-ask for help if you need it

3. Breath

-although it sounds simple, it's not easy to remember to take time to stop and catch some fresh air

-take a yoga class if you can find time *this is one of my favorite ways to practice slowing down and engaging my consciousness

4. Get messy

-embrace the chaos and get messy every now and then

-smile and realize that the storm will pass, eventually

-talk about the messiness to friends and family you trust

-find the humor in it all - LAUGH
