Job interviews are one of the least fun things you will ever have to do, but that doesn’t mean you cannot be successful in them. You just need to be strategic about them. Below are five tips that will help you be successful in your next job interview.

Dress Nicely!

This may seem obvious, but it isn’t about just dressing nicely for your interview, it is also about dressing nicely for yourself. Whenever you feel good about yourself, you will be more confident! Dressing nicely will help you get the confidence you need to have for your big day. Confidence is something companies look for. For most interviews, you must dress business casual or business. You cannot wear a nice dinner date outfit. Dress professionally. Your interviewer wants to see that you care about this job. If you show up in sweatpants that aren’t sending the message they want. Make sure your clothes are wrinkle and stain-free before you jet off. Remember this isn’t a fashion show though so don’t overdo it. Something simple with a little pop is best.

Do Some Research!

Companies are going to ask some questions that aren’t just about you. They want to make sure you are going to reflect on their values and that you will represent their company well. It is smart to find out what the company’s values and mission is. This way you can work to think about questions they may ask you and think of responses. You will understand what the companies seek in your answer. You can also use this information to highlight activities you participate in that must convince companies to believe that you will represent them well. Being qualified for a job isn’t the only important aspect of you getting hired; being the right qualified person is just as important.

Be Prepared!

This is the company's first time meeting you likely so you want to make a good impression. You will want to make sure to arrive early. This will show them you understand time management and will not be late to work if you get the job. You also want to make sure to review any instructions you may have gotten about your email. You don’t want your interviewer to think you didn’t read their email nor think you can’t follow directions. You will want to make sure you have all the needed documents with you. This will show the company you are an organized and dependable person. If you take all these preparations, you are bound to make a good first impression.

Stand out!

You also need to put some effort in to make sure you stand out in your interview. With most job opportunities, you will be one of the dozens of candidates so you need to make yourself memorable. Ask unique and intelligent questions that wow the interviewer. You could try to present a 30-60-90 day plan. Explain to the interviewer what you want to accomplish in this new job in thirty, sixty, and ninety days. This will show the interview you have thought about your role in the company and are serious about the position. Making your interviewer remember you will be extremely important as the company decides who should get called back for another interview.
