Honor Society® Trademark Usage Guidelines

TRADEMARK GUIDELINES

Unless stated otherwise in these Trademark Guidelines, all use of HonorSociety.org, Inc.’s Marks (defined below), requires advance written approval from us. Unless you are already officially working with us, request approval to use of our Marks here, and provide as many details as possible so that we can understand the context for your request. If you are already working with us, please contact your HonorSociety.org, Inc. representative directly to expedite this process.

These Trademark Guidelines are intended to help you understand how to use our valuable Marks in a manner that maintains our protection of the Marks and simultaneously allows you to promote your involvement with us. Any examples provided herein are non-exhaustive and your agreement with HonorSociety.org, Inc. (if you have one) controls your ability to use our Marks.

Please be aware that use of terms that are variations of or derived from our Marks (collectively, the “Variation Marks”) are strictly prohibited.

Keep in mind that unauthorized use of our Marks or Variation Marks likely constitutes trademark and/or copyright infringement. All uses of HonorSociety.org, Inc.’s Marks, including goodwill, will inure to the exclusive benefit of HonorSociety.org, Inc.

General Information

Background and the HONOR SOCIETY Marks:

Since 2013, HonorSociety.org, Inc. has provided resources for academic achievement, including memberships, scholarships, mentoring, events, conferences, career/professional development resources, networking, and related goods and services that have achieved domestic and international recognition for their excellence. Simultaneously, the HONOR SOCIETY Marks have attained status as famous trademarks.

For the purposes of these guidelines, the “HONOR SOCIETY Marks” include:

word marks that contain only text (HONOR SOCIETY or HONORSOCIETY.ORG) (collectively, the “HONOR SOCIETY Word Mark(s)”)
the HONOR SOCIETY logo which may only be used with the applicable year as depicted below (the “HONOR SOCIETY Logo”)

Variation Marks

HonorSociety.org, Inc. maintains federal, state, and/or common law trademark protection in and to the HONOR SOCIETY Marks in both the United States and many international jurisdictions.

LIST OF HONOR SOCIETY MARKS:

Below is a non-exhaustive list of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks. The absence of a trademark, name, logo, slogan, image, or other designation from this list does not constitute a waiver of HONOR SOCIETY’s intellectual property and/or trademark rights in such trademark, name, logo, slogan, image, or other designation. Do not use these HONOR SOCIETY Marks without appropriate permission from HONOR SOCIETY.

Prohibited Uses of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks

UNAPPROVED ASSOCIATIONS

It is critical that only HonorSociety.org, Inc. approved memberships, mentoring, scholarships, events and other programs use the HONOR SOCIETY Marks. Accordingly, using the HONOR SOCIETY Marks, or any confusingly similar variations thereof, in association with the promotion or operation of activity that is not approved or sanctioned by HonorSociety.org, Inc. is strictly prohibited.

DISPARAGING USES OR VIOLATING LAWS

Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks in a disparaging manner or in a way that violates any law or regulation is strictly prohibited.

VARIATION MARKS

Use of terms that are variations of or derived from the HONOR SOCIETY Marks are strictly prohibited.

WRONGFUL ASSERTIONS OF OWNERSHIP

Any display of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks that suggests or implies that you own or control the HONOR SOCIETY Marks is strictly prohibited.

UNAUTHORIZED USE OF THE HONOR SOCIETY MARKS

Any use not explicitly authorized by HonorSociety.org, Inc. is prohibited.

Trademark Licensing

Below are ways you may wish to use the HONOR SOCIETY Marks, which all require a license. You may request a license here. If you are already working with HonorSociety.org, Inc., please contact your representative directly to expedite this process. HonorSociety.org, Inc. reserves the right to approve or deny any license request.

EDITORIAL CONTENT THAT SUGGESTS HonorSociety.org, Inc. APPROVAL

While we do want you to write about HonorSociety.org, Inc., if your content suggests that HonorSociety.org, Inc. has approved or endorsed your content or the source of your content, you need to request a written trademark license from HonorSociety.org, Inc. prior to distributing the content.

Does not require a license:

Title of article, “A Review of HONOR SOCIETY Mentorship and Scholarship Programs”

Requires a license:

Title of article, “HONOR SOCIETY’s List of Top Scholarships”

COMMERCIAL USE

Any non-editorial use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks in association with the promotion of the products or services of a person or entity other than HonorSociety.org, Inc. (“Commercial Use”) without advance written approval from HonorSociety.org, Inc. is strictly prohibited without a license.

Examples of unauthorized Commercial Use:

Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks along with promotions of other products and/or services.
Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks on physical flyers, and/or signage promoting other products and/or services.
Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks in connection with content that requires a user to pay a subscription or fee to access the content.

MERCHANDISE

You may not use the HONOR SOCIETY Marks on any apparel, posters, toys, or other merchandise without a written license agreement from HonorSociety.org, Inc.. If you would like to request permission to use the HONOR SOCIETY Marks on merchandise, please contact one of our marketing contacts.

SOCIAL MEDIA & THE INTERNET

Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks on your social media websites or elsewhere on the internet requires a license. The HONOR SOCIETY Marks shall not be used in any web URLs without HonorSociety.org, Inc.’s prior written approval. Additionally, any Commercial Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks in a hashtag (#) requires a license.

HOW DO I REQUEST A TRADEMARK LICENSE FROM HONOR SOCIETY?

To request a trademark license from HONOR SOCIETY, please fill out this request form. If you are already working with HonorSociety.org, Inc., please contact your HONOR SOCIETY representative directly to expedite this process. HonorSociety.org, Inc. reserves the right to approve or deny any license request at HonorSociety.org, Inc.’s sole discretion.

Upon receipt of a trademark license from HonorSociety.org, Inc., carefully review the terms, and ensure that your planned uses of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks are within the scope of the authorized uses under the license. Please note, while we work to respond to all requests in a timely manner, requests received close to, for instance, submission dates for scholarships, or events, may be delayed in processing.

HOW SHOULD THE LICENSED HONOR SOCIETY MARKS BE DISPLAYED?

REQUEST APPROVAL

All proposed displays of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks must be submitted to HonorSociety.org, Inc. for prior approval. Such approval may be obtained via email from an HonorSociety.org, Inc. representative.

INCLUDE TRADEMARK NOTICE

We require consistent use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks and the trademark symbol (™) or, if appropriate, the registration symbol (®) alongside the licensed HONOR SOCIETY Marks the first or most prominent time the HONOR SOCIETY Marks appear in the text of an approved advertisement, brochure, or other materials. Please refer to the non-exhaustive list of HONOR SOCIETY Marks to determine whether it is appropriate to use the trademark symbol or the registration symbol in association with particular HONOR SOCIETY Marks.

Except on social media where character limits exist, include an attribution of our exclusive ownership of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks in the credit section of your approved document, posting, etc., as follows:

“[Name of Licensed HONOR SOCIETY Marks] is a trademark of HonorSociety.org, Inc., used under license.”

COMPLY WITH THE LOGO GUIDELINES

Upon licensing the HONOR SOCIETY Marks, remember to request a high-resolution version of the art comprising the HONOR SOCIETY Logo and the corresponding guidelines (“Logo Guidelines”). Any licensee that is issued a trademark license for an HONOR SOCIETY Logo will be required to follow the Logo Guidelines.

NO MODIFICATION OF THE HONOR SOCIETY MARKS

The HONOR SOCIETY Marks must be displayed exactly as written (in the case of an HONOR SOCIETY Word Mark) or depicted (in the case of an HONOR SOCIETY Logo). Any desired modifications or alterations of any HONOR SOCIETY Marks, including, without limitation, combining any part of one of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks with any name, trademarks, or other terms, for hashtags, websites, advertisements, or any other uses, must be explicitly licensed by HonorSociety.org, Inc. prior to any use, which approval may be withheld by us in our sole discretion. If we choose to grant you permission to use any such modified/variation mark, it will be owned by HonorSociety.org, Inc., and may be used by you only pursuant to a written license agreement from HonorSociety.org, Inc.

NO PARTNERSHIP

The HONOR SOCIETY Marks shall not be displayed in a manner that implies partnership, sponsorship, or endorsement of you or a third party by HonorSociety.org, Inc. (or any products or services offered by yourself or a third party) without our advance written approval.

Editorial Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks

Please contact [email protected] to confirm whether your proposed use requires a license. You may also refer to the request form for more information on our press policies and resources.

We encourage you to truthfully discuss HonorSociety.org, Inc. in editorial content. Editorial content includes reviews, news reporting, and commentary that expresses opinions about us or provides objective reporting about HonorSociety.org, Inc.. Such editorial content is probably acceptable without a license, but be aware that editorial content that suggests we approve of the content and commercial content requires a license, and we expressly reserve the right to request your removal of such content.

Editorial (no license required):

Title of article, “[Publication's] Review of Programs Made Available to Students and Professions at HonorSociety.org”

License required:

Title of article, “HonorSociety.org’s List of Top Scholarships for College Students”

If you wish to use the HONOR SOCIETY Logos in editorial content, please submit a trademark request, and provide as many details as possible so that we can understand the context for your request. Insert “Press Inquiry” in the header for such requests.

Trademark Usage Guidelines

If you are a student or mentor:

Students and mentors may accurately describe their involvement with Honor Society® using truthful, factual statements such as “Member of Honor Society®” or “Honor Society® Mentor.” Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Logos requires prior written approval and is not permitted without an active trademark license. Students and mentors may not alter, stylize, or combine the HONOR SOCIETY Marks with other names or graphics.

If you are a college or university:

Colleges and universities may make factual, non-promotional statements referencing Honor Society®, such as “Our students are eligible to join Honor Society®.” Any use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks, including Logos or Word Marks, in marketing materials, recruitment materials, partnership language, program descriptions, or webpages requires prior written approval and a trademark license. Institutions may not imply sponsorship, partnership, accreditation, or endorsement without an executed agreement from HonorSociety.org, Inc.

If you are an advertiser or social media influencer, academic or professional institution, and wish to use the HONOR SOCIETY Marks:

If you are working with us in an official capacity, please refer to your existing contracts with us and contact your representative for clarification on permitted use of the HONOR SOCIETY Marks;
Use of the HONOR SOCIETY Logos to link to HonorSociety.org is strictly prohibited. You may, however, use the HONOR SOCIETY Word Marks to link to HonorSociety.org as long as your use of the HONOR SOCIETY Word Marks follows all guidelines set forth in these Trademark Guidelines;
