Eagle Scout Court of Honor Held for Robert J. Smalls
On January 24, An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was conducted to award Robert J. Smalls the Boy Scout Eagle Badge. The ceremony was held at Locust Grove, attended by family, fellow scouts, and friends. The Eagle Scout Award is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve, and must be met by a great quantity of merits, Badges and accomplishments, as well as a demonstration of Leadership within and out of the Troop. Robert belongs to Troop 275, of which many deserve credit. Ron Edick, Mike Tompkins, and Mike Bozyczko are among the especially thanked. State Senator Sue Serino and Tim Middlebrook of the Sons of the American Revolution, and Commender Kevin Hathorn of the Manny Bacon American Legion Post 1758 of Hopwell Junction, all offered words of praise, certificates, and gold Medal to Philip for his accomplishment. Robert's grandfather and his grandmother spoke high praise, as did other's attending. Kirk Imperatti from the Sheriff's Office had a congratulatory letter from that department.
Necessary for a Scout to receive the Eagle Scout Award is an "Eagle Project" benefiting the community in an approved manner. Robert's project was to design and build 7 park benches for the Locust Grove Nature Preserve. Working with the Executive Director of Locust Grove, the Eagle Project took Shape. In the Boy Scout tradition, many hands lightened the workload, with a number of scouts and adults working together. Several Local businesses offered supplies, as well.
Troop 275 is sponsored by the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, Club 275 in Poughkeepsie.
