Mike Leskosky: Graduate Student Achiever Scholarship
Greetings Everyone! My name is Mike Leskosky and I am currently enrolled in Youngstown State University’s (YSU) Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. I am working to complete my master’s degree with a specialization in child and adolescent counseling, and have approximately four years of clinical experience providing individual and group-based behavior intervention services to at-risk youth in school, home, and community settings. As a graduate assistant, I have been collaborating with my faculty mentors on scholarly work surrounding professional advocacy, personal growth, professional development, feminist pedagogy, mentorship, social justice, and destigmatizing language. Most recently, I was afforded the opportunity to co-author a book chapter with one of my educators that will appear in a text published by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), and presented two poster sessions with my peers at the 2015 American Counseling Association Conference.
Although there are various organizations at my university in which I am actively involved, I ascribe the most significance to YSU’s Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Eta Chapter, a division of the Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International. As the 2015-2016 Eta Chapter president, and a CSI International Leadership Fellow, it is my hope to emphasize themes of meaning, connection, creativity, and intentionality in an effort to co-facilitate a year of professional action both locally and nationally. Following the completion of my master’s degree, I plan to enter into a doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision. The HonorSociety.org Graduate Student Achiever Scholarship will doubtlessly enhance my competency as a counselor-in-training and allow me best prepare myself for doctoral study by enabling me to focus on my research interests and engage in professional conference activities.
