Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Are there scholarships for student leadership?
Yes. Some scholarships recognize student leadership. A formal title can provide context, but strong evidence often comes from decisions, responsibility, collaboration, and a contribution that fits the provider’s criteria.
Describe leadership as action
Explain the problem, your role, the choice you made, and what happened next. Leadership can involve organizing a team, improving a process, resolving a disagreement, or helping others participate. Do not claim a role you did not hold or a result you cannot support.
If an effort had mixed results, thoughtful reflection can still be valuable. Show what you changed or learned instead of rewriting the story as an effortless success. Credit other people’s contributions accurately.
Put the answer into practice
- Read how the award defines leadership.
- Choose a specific decision or responsibility to explain.
- Document your contribution and the result.
- Ask a recommender who observed the work when a letter is required.
