Honor Society® Expert FAQ
How do you set academic goals each semester?
Set academic goals by choosing a meaningful outcome and the actions you can control to pursue it. A goal such as improving writing becomes useful when it includes practice, feedback, and a way to assess progress.
Connect the outcome you want to a repeatable process
Choose a manageable number of priorities. For example, a student might aim to improve analytical paragraphs by drafting early and attending two writing consultations before a major paper. The appointments are a process measure; the quality of the revised argument is the learning measure.
If the goal involves GPA, honors, or scholarship renewal, check the official criteria and calculate a realistic target. Honor Society’s achievement-inventory guide can help document progress and completed work. Review goals during the term and revise the plan when course demands or circumstances change.
Your next steps
- Choose an outcome that matters and define evidence of progress.
- Schedule specific actions and feedback opportunities.
- Review the plan midterm and adjust it using results.
