Honor Society® Expert FAQ

When is financial aid disbursed?

Financial aid is disbursed according to the school’s schedule and the rules of each program, usually by payment period or term. An aid offer is not the same as money already credited to your account.

What to know before you act

Disbursement may depend on enrollment confirmation, completed documents, loan counseling, or other requirements. Outside scholarships can arrive on a separate schedule. Work-study is paid as wages after work is performed.

Ask the school for the expected credit date and, if relevant, the later date when a remaining balance will be released to you. Build a short-term plan for books, rent, or deposits due earlier. Do not assume the first day of class is every program’s payment date.

Your next steps

  • Check the school’s published disbursement calendar.
  • Resolve holds and missing requirements.
  • Confirm refund delivery details through the official student portal.

For the next step, use the fafsa preparation guide. Organize documents, contributor steps, award years, and follow-up tasks.
