About

My name is Brandy Joyce Dinkins. I started my education career as a Teacher's Assistant, working in the SPED department for Life Skills for four years. After that, I taught Pre-K for a year at GCCSA, a non-profit organization that serves the most vulnerable populations of Harris County. Shortly after, I got the opportunity to teach in my field as a Health Teacher for at-risk students who were determined to graduate, despite their hardships at Forest Brook Middle School for two years. Currently, I am a 3rd grade Math Teacher at one of the most rigorous, high-quality charter schools in Houston, Texas. I have my Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Sam Houston State University. Now, I am in the process of attaining my Master's Degree in Applied Digital Learning at Lamar University.
Graduate school started as a promise to my dad. My dad is 80 years old and wants to see all of his daughters achieve a successful careers before he closes his eyes. I come from a family that believes higher education is essential. My mom and my three sisters have already attained their master's, and one of my sisters is currently pursuing her Doctoral degree. It's no secret I am a dad's girl, and I enjoy making him proud of what he has done to get me here in my adult life. As I began taking classes, I realized I loved what I was building in Applied Digital Learning. So, my promise to my dad turned into a passion that I wanted to achieve for myself. I am a full-time single mother working as a full-time math teacher who holds a GPA of 3.83 in graduate school.

Goals and interests

Career goal

When I finish attaining my Master's Degree, I plan on taking additional classes to be open to taking the Principal's certification. That's one path I am highly looking into, but I have grown a strong interest in becoming a Math Interventionist now that I am a Math teacher. I love working with small groups, and elementary has always been a vital area that I have loved in my eight years of teaching.

Graduate school interests

I am getting my Master's in Applied Digital Learning at Lamar Unversity. Applied Digital Learning is lessons and materials that are appropriate for a wide range of learners, from elementary to college and beyond. The Applied Digital Skills curriculum uses a series of videos to guide learners through creating a project from scratch. My portfolio in graduate school is to introduce blended learning in a cultural setting. Blended learning in the classroom is a great way to teach educational materials. It can quickly help students close the academic gaps in their learning and boost their confidence in their educational journey. A blended learning classroom also allows teachers to build those relationships with their students as they have more time to converse with them and work out problems with them in several ways in class or online.

Outside the classroom

I enjoy spending time with my son Kayden, who is nine years old and still lets me call him a "teddy bear" to this day. I'm an excellent cook, which I learned from my father, so cooking is another passion and hobby. I love doing makeup as well. I love meeting new people and bringing out their natural beauty in that aspect, and I've been doing makeup for over six years now. Dancing and traveling are also on my list, which I often do.
