About

I am a Junior at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. I love my Acadiana college. It offers many different ways to be involved. This past year I was the Historian and Founding member of Alpha Delta Pi, a prestigious Sorority of sisters willing to help the community and encourage excellence in academics and social standing. This summer I worked with the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts and Louisiana A+ Schools, encouraging teachers to instill the love of art in their students. I imagine myself a year from now, teaching high school in a huge art studio, with classical music flowing, and student’s pencils sketching.

I understand the value of mentors and I believe in nurturing the creative hearts of kids.Having classes in art makes school fun and motivates success.

Athletics should also be a part of a young person’s life. I have been Captain of my High School swim team for many years, and I hold the record for the 500 Yard Swim. I currently coach the New Iberia Aquatics summer team.

Other extra-curricular activities like 4-H help children develop skills they will use the rest of their lives. I have been extremely active in Louisiana 4-H since I was four, starting the program by helping my big brother, Bradley, with his rabbits. 4-H has been a huge part of my life. I learned how to be a leader and how to find ways to help her community. My favorite part of the program was being on the State 4-H Fashion Board, meeting with fashionisttas like myself who love to sew, walk the runway, and glitterize. I was co-chair during my Senior year in high school, helping the state group plan and teach others in Louisiana about fashion.

I plan on becoming a sponsor for 4-H and the Key Club. Parents need more positive activities for their children that are free. It is the community that helps to raise a child. I know this because I have had so many, many wonderful mentors helped me get to where I am today.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I want to become a teacher of art. A facilitator for the beautiful and creative ways kids can express themselves as they grow academically. My goal is to become involved in the school system where I teach by mentoring through 4-H, Swim Team, and Key Club. When children are involved in their community, they grow learning more about themselves and they acquire mentors who show them the path to develop their full potential.

Graduate school interests

I will attend graduate school and earn my Masters in Art History and Education. I plan to work as a teacher as I take classes towards my graduate degree.

Outside the classroom

I enjoy being outdoors. I love to swim, fish, hunt, shoot skeet, and run. Pageants are also one of my biggest hobbies. I enjoy competing, representing, and mentoring young girls for interview and stage presence. Most of all, I enjoy drawing, painting, and creating beautiful works of art.
