About

I have an outstanding work ethic, quiet but impactful leadership skillset, and a compassionate and positive character that sets me apart from peers. I have learned to balance my academic course load with leadership and service to the community, and I pride myself in doing the right things for the right reasons, no matter if anyone is looking. Compassion, understanding, and open-mindedness are essential traits of my character. As many teachers have shared with me in the past, I am a quiet leader. Because I can relate to others and because I do not ask anyone to do something I would not do myself, my guidance to correct academic group work is well accepted. My view is that quiet leadership is as good as loud leadership, and compassion towards others builds trust and respect amongst the team or group. Building trust is essential because without trust, a leader would not have any true followers. In addition, remaining calm under stress and being courageous to challenge the “norm” when right is right is important to me.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I intend to be a scientist and join the long historical legacy of my favorite scientists who happen to be women like the great geneticist, Barbara McClintock and the first female pharmacist in the United States, Elizabeth Marshal. Like these women, I sought out a university that has strong research opportunities to ensure that I gain the skills and knowledge to pursue my long-term goal of becoming either a geneticist or pharmacist. My family and upbringing have prepared me for a career in STEM. My mother and father not only emphasized the importance of education, but they also emphasized the significance of pursuing a career that matches my interests, contributes to society, and helps my community. In addition, they stressed a solid work ethic, punctuality, and kindness to others. My aunt, who is a pharmacist, and my favorite teacher instilled in me a love for STEM through their teaching/mentoring.
