About

Christian Lebrón, Ph.D. is a multidisciplinary scholar — writer, editor, historian, and travel journalist — whose work bridges history, literature, geography, and journalism. He earned his Ph.D. in Humanities with a major in History from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, in May 2025. His thesis, Navassa Island: A Study in Historical Nissology, from Christopher Columbus to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, was unanimously rated outstanding.

He previously earned a B.A. in Social Sciences, with a major in Political Science, subfield in International Relations, from the same institution. In addition, Lebrón holds three master’s degrees: an M.A. in History specializing in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean from the Center for Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean; an M.A. in Creative Writing (Narrative) from the University of the Sacred Heart; and a Master’s in Travel Journalism (Màster en Periodisme de Viatges — Màster propi UAB) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

His research interests include Island Studies (Nissology); communications; organizational and business history; Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Latin America; U.S. foreign policy toward Haiti; postcolonial and decolonial studies; and the history of geography and cartography. In literature and creative writing, he explores Latin American literature, narrative theory, the history of the short story and novel, discourse analysis, and autofiction.

Lebrón’s multidisciplinary profile is enriched by travel across every inhabited continent, with a particular focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. Known for his creativity, versatility, and passion for the arts, he engages deeply in diverse fields, reflecting a cosmopolitan and multicultural outlook. Fluent in Spanish, English, and Portuguese—thanks to years living in the United States, Colombia, Brazil, and Puerto Rico—he grounds his work in robust intellectual, cultural, and ethical foundations. He is an active member of the Association of Caribbean Historians (ACH), the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR), and the Society for the History of Discoveries.
