About
I began my journey academically as an allied health science major, and struggled between deciding whether I would want to work in a clinical setting providing individualized care or for a government agency like... the CDC, Dept. of veteran affairs, DHHS as examples, implementing or evaluating policies and programs to improve health on a population level. I knew my primary interest was science as a whole, but realized I really had to narrow my focus. I was formerly a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps infantry (0352) and found my old love for science when I left the service and am attending University at Plymouth State University as a senior. I have.... bounced back and forth to keep as many doors open as possible so I can pursue healthcare from a population basis or an individual basis, and I'm still really interested in research, but have accepted I may have to build my academic profile and skills more before I tackle any major research projects. For example I have taken anatomy and physiology 1+2 and labs, kinesiology, applied health and nutrition, Allied health science intro. + lab, which would otherwise not have been required as I'm technically now a Public Health major and will be taking Biology, physics 1+2, chemistry 1+2 independently with another institution as I finish my BS in Public health to keep my options as wide as possible for grad school which I will be attending soon as I have only 21 credits remaining for my Bachelor's. My primary concern is I live in an area in northern New Hampshire where my options are limited as some schools do not offer options I am interested in, or they would simply require me to re-locate for the commute distance to be reasonable. If you told me when I was a 16 year-old kid who refused to do his homework every night I'd be hooked on science I would not have believed you. Because even though we can build skyscrapers, send humans to space, and design complex electronics and mechanical devices, there is SO many things that we still don't understand. Life never stops evolving, chemicals never stop reacting, the planet never stops changing, and the universe is ever expanding so our job never ends.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
Nothing with my Bachelor's in Public Health unless an incredible opportunity arose. I acknowledge that this degree would likely require additional education when I made the swap. I did not come from a wealthy background, quite the opposite. I cannot justify making the same salary/pay for most job offers in a Bachelor's entry-level career as I do checking guests into my local ski resort as a front desk supervisor.
That being said... and I mean this... Community health workers, social workers, special education paraprofessionals etc. you all do not get paid what you deserve to put yourself in debt for a career that's dedicated to helping those in dire need, respect.
- Graduate school interests
If I pursue a grad. program based around my BS in Public Health...
#1: Epidemiology. When people think of epidemiology they think of infectious disease immediately but there's so many options...
- Environmental
- Occupational
- Molecular
- Genetic
- Cancer (and many others specific to life-threatening ailments)
- Pharmaceutical
They're all fascinating#2. Master of Public health
-Clinical research coordinator
-Public health educator
-Environmental policy: I share the sentiment many of my professors have that it will likely take a cataclysmic event of epic proportions from nature to get the human race to act collectively, the least we can do is try to put a band-aid on the bullet wound and educate the public or at least provide the information for those that want real scientific evidence. Resources are finite and our time as individuals on this earth is numbered, so it's engrained in all living things to do what is in favor of self-preservation. Even animals will fight each other for territory when they are not threatened and have a full stomach. All great options but to be honest... not big into program planning and policy review or anything requiring major federal government funding. If anything, I'd rather work at a local level. I went on a tirade about environmental policy because I would make an exception to my disdain for politics to work towards making human dominance on this earth a little less damaging to the ecosystem.
If I pursue (which I am leaning towards) my classes I have taken and will take to fulfill pre-requisites for individualized science based on the individual human it would be...
#1: Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Have half the pre-reqs working on the rest. Helping the disabled and veterans or children. Specific interest in Neurology but I will cross that bridge when I get their
#2: Neurologist: because the above mentioned. I have a specific interest in the Nervous system.
#3: Psychiatrist: Nature vs. nurture right? Everyone has their own opinion. Studying predispositions and human experience and seeing how it can have such a large biological impact is still pretty much to this day a mystery to some degree. How can something that does not physically contact or touch you result in a scientifically documented biological change? Anyone pursuing this field saying "well let me tell you idiot" all I'm saying is there's a lot we still don't know and I'd consider this career path.

- Supporting entertainers who have rare or special talents. For example people who have a rare skill or hobby. If I'm ever in the city and I see a street performer and I'm not in a rush I will go out of my way to see them.
- Swimming. Rivers in NH are beautiful and clean.
- Harmonica, I'm terrible at it but.... oh well.

Senior meals during my time in High school. Providing homecooked meals for seniors at the local community center. I have left them a voicemail to return and do it again, but they are still very much so cautious as COVID is still very threatening to the immuno-compromised. They are MUCH more restrictive about who enters the and exits the building.
