About

I am a current Graduate/Teacher License student at the University of Colorado at Denver. I am currently enrolled in the Urban Community Teacher Education program, exposing me to graduate level classes while securing a Colorado Teaching License working in urban schools. I am very excited to become a teacher and promote social justice and the importance of education to urban students. I spent 10 years working in the field of Building Maintenance and rose to the level of Management before I followed my heart and changed careers to become an English Teacher. I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Colorado (Boulder) in 2010 in English Literature. I love working with underprivileged students, particularly English Language Learners, as they reflect the effort you impart on their education ten-fold.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I intend to finish my Urban Community Teacher Education licensure program in December 2015 and continue at the University of Colorado at Denver until I obtain a Masters Degree in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education. My goal is to finish my Masters Degree by December of 2016. I have also been taking courses for a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate, which will allow me to teach English internationally. I plan to travel and teach English in various places around the world after completing my studies, then return to the United States to teach English in an Urban School.

Graduate school interests

I am currently in a program that allows me to take graduate school courses while I receive my Colorado Teachers License. I will attend the University of Colorado at Denver to complete my Masters Degree in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education by December of 2016.

Outside the classroom

I am a very active person who enjoys all types of activities. I play baseball in the NABA (National Adult Baseball Association) during the summer. I am an avid hiker and camper. I play volleyball, and softball in co-ed leagues. I love to work out and live a healthy lifestyle. I still have not shaken off my love of video games, although I find the time I have to play them has decreased drastically! I love to read books, and I make it a point to read every night before I turn in.
