About

I have wanted to become a nurse for as long as I can remember. Being the daughter of an ICU nurse and listening to stories of caring for and connecting with different people growing up, I knew that nursing was for me. Like my mother, caring for others is in my nature. I have learned to appreciate the sense of purpose I felt by caring for my 4 siblings, have earned the “Mama Bear” award on my collegiate swim team, and have found joy in caring for the elderly population in healthcare as a Personal Care Assistant and Nurse aid.

Going into college, I had my intention set on doing nursing school while swimming at the Division I level. I knew this was a lot to take on, but I have never been one to shy away from a challenge. However, the reality of what it would mean to do both set in at the end of my sophomore year. Although I did get accepted into the nursing program at University at Buffalo, continuing on would have meant practicing alone every day and sacrificing precious time with my team, and that was something that I was not willing to give up. I am one to only commit to something when I can be all-in, and this would not have been possible had I continued in the program while still holding on to my beloved sport.

Having an undergraduate education in another concentration as well as my previous healthcare experience will allow me to develop into a more well-rounded, insightful and knowledgeable nurse. I feel that my Bachelor's Degree in Health and Human Services has helped me gain a broader perspective on what it means to be in healthcare, and I will carry that with me throughout my nursing career forever. Moreover, I have gained experience working in an assisted living and nursing home, and feel confident in my abilities in bedside nursing that I did not have before, as well as assurance that nursing is the right career for me.
