About

My name is Claudia Francis. I am a DMFT students currently part time at the Loma Linda University. I am hoping to go fulltime within the next year and a half. I am currently working as the Senior Chaplain at the Royal Cornhill Hospital. I would like to receive this scholarship so that I do not have to break form my studies due to inability to pay my fees and also to continue my volunteer with the refugee instead of working additional hours to meet my fees.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Prior to working at the VA I intended to provide services as a Marriage and Family Therapist to disadvantage areas for individuals who cannot afford it especially in the church settings where this is frowned upon. I wanted to create a safe space a sanctuary where the abused and disadvantage can find safety and a path to rebuild their lives again. I still intend to do this but having worked with the Veterans these past 7 months there is such a great need in Mental Health and in their family settings. Intimate Partner Violence is high among Veteran and there is a lot of substance abuse. Military Sex Trauma as such I have been volunteering add forging relationships outside my job role a-with these departments. I have seen how my chaplain skills have provide some what assistance and I know with this additional training I can provided even more in depth support to help these Veterans find wholeness again and to strengthen their broken relationships with children and loved ones.
Recenty, I relocate to Scotland for tow years and have been working at Mental Health and Learning Disability Units where I work with all age group and including Veterans with a very high suicide rate and complex PTSD. The need is great and this DMFT course has afforded me skills to help navigate the challenges. I have been volunteering and for sure I will continue to work within the Mental Health field.

Graduate school interests

I am currently a DMFT students and I have an interest in working with refugees and ethnic minorities who have no access to care. I have an interest in working with our Veterans also.
