About

I am currently a student at the University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in biology in hopes of becoming a physician assistant for a dermatologist. I grew up in the small town of Gonzales, Texas which is the origin of Texas independence. During my high school career, I was very involved in community service organizations where I played major leadership roles such as the drum major for the band 3 years in a row. Throughout my first year in college, I have joined the Texas Longhorn Marching Band and the Pre-Physician Assistant society. My ambition to reach my goal of becoming a physician assistant comes from my previous band director, Mr. Parker. He taught me to never give up on my dreams because he always told us to "Do your best". I want to challenge myself by becoming a physician assistant because I know that if I keep the motto, “Do Your Best” with me in college, I know that I can achieve anything. I am the son of Harvey and Patricia Wilkerson and the brother of Trenton Wilkerson. My father has been disabled for the past 15 years due to rheumatoid arthritis and my mother is the utility billing supervisor for the City of Seguin, Texas. Because my father is disabled, my parents are not able to save money for my college expenses. Even though my family has not provided me with financial support, they provided me with something better, a never ending support system.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I am currently a student at the University of Texas at Austin as a Biology Major. After I earn my Bachelor's degree, I would like to pursue a Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies in order to become a Physician Assistant for a Dermatologist.

Graduate school interests

After I earn my Bachelor's degree in Biology, I would like to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio Health and Science Center or the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in order to earn my Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.

Outside the classroom

One of my favorite and new hobbies is twirling. I love it because it is a unique sport. You don't see someone throwing a metal stick in the air and catching it while doing tricks under the toss every day! I also love this sport because it proves that no matter how many times I drop the baton, I always pick it up and try and try again until I get it right. I also love to dance and spend time with my friends.
