Connor Smith

If you were to have seen me in high school, you would see a person that was unmotivated and did not do well in school. After discovering my passion to become a firefighter/paramedic is when my entire life changed. I graduated high school weighing 300 pounds. I knew I would never even come close to achieving my dream. I got serious in school and my health where I went on to lose 137 pound in just six months. I was happy and more motivated than ever.
I am currently enrolled in the Truckee Meadows Community College paramedic academy where I am pursuing a degree in Prehospital Emergency Medicine as well as a paramedic certification. I currently hold a degree in Fire Science Technology/Protection. I graduated from the TMCC Fire Academy as the class valedictorian and academy leader while I am currently leading the paramedic academy in academics. This last semester I was enrolled in 24 credits and earned a 4.0 GPA. I hold a cumulative GPA of 3.71 and have made the dean’s list for the past 3 years. Next semester I am enrolled in 26 credits and I am confident by saying I will achieve another 4.0 GPA. I recently quit my job at Costco Wholesale. The reason for quitting was because it was time to end a “job” so I can move embark on the “career” of my dreams. A job is what people are forced to do just to make money while a career is something you love and enjoy doing for the rest of your life. If I were to receive this scholarship, it will not only be one of the best things that has ever happen to me, it will also hopefully give you the feeling of appreciation that they money will be going toward the most driven and passionate person you will ever me. I have this quote on my screen saver and look at it every single time I open my phone “Our only limitations are those we set in our own mind.” I know that nothing comes easy and I also know nothing will stop me from conquering my dreams. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing my opportunities with you in the future.
