About

Pursuit of my graduate certificate has also lead me to take an interest in how women have develop 'identities' throughout history. Specifically my research focuses on how African American Women find their identity without eroding the “manhood” of African American men. This will certainly be a noteworthy challenge in assessing the dynamics that shape the lives of African American women and their role in society today.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My future goal is to earn a Ph.d and teach or continue research in the academic environment. Particularly, I wish to continue research on the African American women and the process of developing their identities.

Graduate school interests

I am currently pursuing a graduate Certificate in Women and Gender Studies. My interest in Women and Gender subjects has both personal and professional influences, leading me to research the relationship between speech disorders and their prevalence in the male population. Personally, I suffer from the speech impediment of stuttering. Growing up, I noticed most of my male friends also suffered from stuttering while my female friends tended to lack this speech impediment. Research shows there is indeed a common relationship trending towards males because of an association to brain behavior. Biologically women have a greater connection to left hemisphere of the brain, which is where verbal skills are located. Males have a greater connection the right side of the brain where most critical thinking and mathematical skills are processed. This difference places a male at greater risk for developing speech anomalies. I welcome the opportunity to study these issues further.
