David Banigan

I'm trying to enter a world of educators where there is a deficit of male educators in a predominately female profession. My goal is to become a teacher in each grade. I want to inspire young learners find the joy in education. I'd also like to continue my studies for an administrative degree and become an Elementary School Principal.

In these two years I have explored the campus and have found I enjoy being a Radio DJ at the student URI radio station. It gives me enjoyment to be the voice and play music that entertains others. I have also enjoyed my time with Sojourn Collegiate Ministry. Their organization is created to bring a community of students together from different religions to enjoy different activities each week. It has given me a sense of belonging I truly cherish at URI.

My hobbies are all seasonal. At one point in my life November and February were the most depressing months of the year for me so I took up skiing. Skiing has been a cure for the winter blues. I have enjoyed golfing since I was twelve years old and see myself golfing for as long as I can. I enjoy the fast-pace adventure of mountain biking. It reminds me of skiing. I have picked up stand up paddle boarding. It's been a relaxing experience I cherish with my wife April. I had two experiences jumping out of a perfectly good airplane in a sky diving adventure with my father. This scenic experience has all the thrill of take off and amazing views over Newport, Rhode Island. Over the summer of 2022 I was in St Thomas and had the opportunity to take a beginner class in scuba diving. I loved it so much I dedicated a weekend of my trip to studying, watching videos and passing several tests to become certified in scuba diving. I have always loved learning. My favorite place in the world is my public library. A place where I can find a nook and read a story and be drawn away on an adventure or learn a new subject I'm not familiar with.
