About

My name is Dylan Kittrell and I am a philosophy major at The University of Southern Mississippi. Philosophy is my passion. I have a particular interest in the philosophy of mind and theories of meaning within the philosophy of language. Philosophy of religion was the first area of study within philosophy to interest me; so, I still revisit it from time to time. I feel like philosophy of religion is a good field to study after one has studied other, broader philosophical topics, which is why I am choosing to "hold off" on the former until I am more well-versed in the latter. Growing up in the South explains part of my interest in the study of religion, Christianity in particular, of course, but by no means exclusively; Eastern religions, for example, are, to me, very interesting and attractive.

Anyways, whenever I'm not reading, I enjoy listening to music, particularly playing the drums; it allows my mind to drift while still challenging it in some way. Anytime not spent learning, of which my generation has taken a keen disinterest, is time unwell spent.

My goals for the future are to teach and research philosophy. Being fully cognizant of the competitive nature of the job market for philosophy professors (indeed, even for decent philosophy graduate programs), I am content with knowing that I, in all likelihood, will not get a prestigious position at any top-rate university; I am content as long as I am studying and teaching philosophy. This ought not to be taken as a sign of apathy towards where I end up in the future; it is simply a pre-expression of contentment with wherever it is that I do end up, so long as it involves me studying and teaching philosophy.
