About

I am 20 years old, from Queens, NYC, and all I want to do is write. Writing is not just what I do. Writing is who I am. It is my lifeline, my heartbeat, and the way I make sense of a world that has been both beautiful and cruel. My book, Magnum Opus: Blood and Light, took everything out of me to write. Every sentence, every paragraph, every page carries the weight of my experiences, my pain, and the love I discovered through surviving that pain. Writing showed me that even in the darkest moments, there is something to hold onto, something to transform, something that can shine. It is where I found myself and the strength to keep going when the world tried to break me.
I have lived through things most people could never imagine. I lost my father when I was 16, watching him fall into the depths of alcoholism while carrying the invisible scars of trauma from his military service. Losing him was like losing a part of myself, and it left a hole that seemed impossible to fill. At the same time, I faced my own brush with death. I was hospitalized with pneumonia, put on a breathing machine, and then ECMO for 12 days, my survival uncertain. While I floated between life and death, my family was trapped in fear and grief, and I was trapped in vivid, terrifying dreams that felt eternal. I survived, but I came out of it changed, fragile, and determined all at once.
In the aftermath, I battled depression, anxiety, and a bitterness that made leaving my home feel impossible. I turned to drugs and alcohol, trying to numb the constant mental pain, but it was never enough. Then I found writing. Writing demanded everything from me. It took my sorrow, my fear, my loneliness, and forced me to face it, to understand it, and to transform it. Through writing, I discovered a voice that is raw, honest, and mine alone. I found love in the act of creating, a love that allowed me to smile when others cannot, to find strength where it seems there is none, and to keep moving forward even when the world seems determined to keep me down.
I earned my high school diploma online with a 3.4 GPA, managing school while navigating the weight of trauma and illness that made ordinary life feel impossible. Every obstacle became fuel, every setback became insight, and every tear became a word, a sentence, a page. Magnum Opus: Blood and Light is not just a book. It is a reflection of survival, resilience, and the power of voice. It is the manifestation of everything I have endured and everything I hope to give to the world.
Now, as I study at Columbia College Chicago, I am fully committed to writing. To live any other way would be unimaginable. I am here to refine my craft, to explore the depths of my voice, and to contribute meaningfully to a community that values creativity, intellect, and authenticity. Being part of the Honors Society is another step in this journey, a chance to connect with people who understand the power of resilience and the importance of pursuing a life defined by passion and purpose.
All I want is to write, to pour myself onto the page, to make people feel, to leave a mark, and to live through words. Writing is not just my ambition; it is my life, my defiance, and my way of being in a world that does not always make room for those who dare to feel everything. I am a writer, and that is everything.
