About

Edie Lynch, award winning documentary film director, model, jeweler and photographer tells the tumultuous true story of her family, and her life, spanning six generations in her new autobiography, The Joy Boy's Daughter, to be released by IUniverse in the next few weeks. From the plantation fields of Troy Alabama during the Civil War where her beloved grandmother Josie was born to Missy, a beautiful and ambitious slave/mistress, to the little town up North where her Daddy, known as The Joy Boy, would establish a glittering star-studded Big Band Cosmopolitan Club, Edie's family would carve out a remarkable niche for themselves. Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Lena Horne and Nat King Cole packed The Joy Boy's club and rocked to the tunes of the times. Edie recounts these memories of her childhood where she was strongly influenced by her paternal grandparents. Edie began early on putting her feelings down in her diaries and discovered that the very things she found troubling in her beloved Daddy were the things she was drawn to in her husband, a pilot who would become a gifted and controversial Doctor. To put her husband through medical school, and to care for their son and daughter, Edie worked as Pennsylvania's first Black model. Edie holds two Master Degrees from The New School, in International Affairs and Media Studies and spends half of each year helping the orphan and homeless children of Rio de Janeiro who are hunted down and killed at night by the police for the crime of being poor and homeless.
