About

I am currently in my second semester of a two year MSA program at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. I was a public school classroom teacher for 10 years prior to earning the distinguished honor of being a NC Principal Fellow. I will be entering a year long internship in August 2017, and will graduate in May of 2018. I have always loved being a part of education, and molding the pathways of young minds to achieve and believe in their success and potential. I have served Title I schools my entire career, and have seen poverty first hand. I know that I can make a difference, and as an administrator, I know that I can affect change more widespread. I am very humbled by being a NC Principal Fellow, and do not take for granted the opportunity that it has provided me and my son, so that I can further my career; without this opportunity, I would not be able to financially afford to get my MSA and be a mom, and teach. This scholarship through Honor Society would make the next few months more manageable, as the stipend for Principal Fellow is limited, especially for a single mother.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I intend to serve in North Carolina as a public school administrator. I want to become a principal within 2 years of graduation. I am prepared to lead elementary, middle or high schools.

Outside the classroom

I have many hobbies, including exercising, reading (professional journals and leisure articles), cooking, and volunteering with various groups and organizations. I understand the delicate balance that one must possess to allow time away from their professions to dedicate time to other passions. This lesson was not one that I learned over night; it took many years of trial and error.
