About

I am a junior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Wisconsin – Madison where I am working towards completing my BS in Plant Pathology.

Currently, I am an intern at Phyllotech LLC, a biosustainable agriculture products company located in the University Research Park.
I am working on a project designed to investigate the activity of a novel antimicrobial protein from the leaf surfaces of plants. I am primarily interested in elucidating several of its mysterious homologs, but also have been working towards generating shortened genetic sequences coding for the protein of interest in order to increase its profitability. I have recently accepted the Inaugural Plant Pathology Summer Research Internship to continue my research through the summer.

I have presented my independent research at both the CALS Undergraduate Symposium this past spring, a poster session for a University Biology course, and will present again at the first departmental Plant Pathology seminar that will take place in September of this year.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I have considered both the educational and the industrial option, and I feel that it is important to keep my mind open to both routes. However, working for a company associated but independent of the University has truly inspired me to think beyond the walls of education and towards the possibility for innovation in the industry.

Graduate school interests

I am pursuing all interests in possible graduate school locations. I would like to specialize in microbial pathogens.
