About

With all that is happening today with police and the public, I feel we need to go back to basics. Do community policing, which is only on half of the problem. But without community policing, the problem only gets worse. The minority community needs to know that the police are there to serve and protect. The adults cannot teach their young to trust the police if they themselves cannot trust them. Domestic violence is one major aspect of what is going wrong. The minorities that are getting battered see their assailants get essentially a slap on the wrist just to get battered again. Education from the police in the community would greatly improve this situation. Stricter deterrents for the abuser would also help. Stricter punishments for those who break the law, in general, would also help.
When a police officer is "walking the beat" in a community he serves and protects, he has that opportunity to get to know the people and find what their needs and concerns are. Then that officer can take steps to start programs, to educate, and to provide a way to rectify the problems of the community.
I also see a lot of unbalance of minorities in the police departments. The officers need to urge his community to take surveys to get an accurate count of the different races then hire officers in a more balanced way.
I choose to pursue to become a Parole Officer to teach those who had made a mistake that they have a choice in making their lives better for themselves and their families. I actually have a personal story that I can share with the Parolees that shows they can rise above. I would also be the one officer that does not take crap from anybody. The Parolees do not do as I say, I will be the worst person in their life. We all make mistakes, but it is the ability to learn from these mistakes. If they cannot learn, I cannot help them.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I have always wanted to work in the Criminal Justice field since I was about eight years old either wanting to be a State Trooper or a Lawyer. When my dreams of either came crashing down through a series of life altering events, I pushed my initial dreams aside. Fear of failure kept me from pursuing anything else in the field until recently. My intended career path is to ultimately become a Parole Officer.

Outside the classroom

I love to shoot guns. I have never been afraid to squeeze the trigger at a moving animal as I started to hunt at the age of 19. You cannot keep me out of my fishing boat when the Hybrid Stripped Bass are in during late spring early summer. I enjoy the ruggedness of camping and can usually stay longer than my husband is prepared for. (When camping with a tent and not bathing, a person gets a sense of when they are ready for the comforts of home. I like to stay for a couple weeks, whereas my husband likes maybe, five days tops.) I come from a very artsy family and have a medium talent for drawing, crocheting, sewing, and other creative things. I have always wanted to have a horse of my own and have reacquainted myself with a friend who has the resources to teach me what I need to know and to maybe help me get that horse I always wanted. I enjoy a good romance or interesting fiction or non- fiction book. I have a passion for music, particularly oldies. Country music today has no country in it and Rap is crap. There are a few exceptions in both categories. NASCAR is the only sport in which I have been to several events. My favorite race car driver is the Wisconsin native Matt Kenseth in which I have met in person. I love the Steelers but have yet to go to a game. I have to find a new favorite player since Hines Ward retired. I enjoy cooking, but not the cleaning. If I have the space on my counters and all the tools I need, I enjoy cooking gourmet. It helps that I like to eat, hence being overweight with cholesterol issues. (Love that bacon!)
I can either be a tomboy or very lady- like. I do not mind either.
