Goals and interests
- Career goal
Although I am currently not set on a job path, I have two passions: research and debate. This has led me to consider a career in pharmaceutical law! Hopefully, with experience in both public health and neuroscience, I would be able to obtain the skills needed for a law degree including organisational skills, communication, and problem solving.
- Graduate school interests
As mentioned earlier, I am not yet set on a job path however law interests me. Thus, currently, Law school is my primary grad school interest.

STEMinist Society
Member – September till May 2021, President – May 2021
As a member, I had multiple responsibilities including but not limited to: content creation for social media pages, the execution of programming workshops, and participation of session debate. The programming workshops were aimed at lower school students to address the poor computing community in my school. After the workshop, over 20 students joined the coding club and we still set bi-monthly challenges.
As the president, I take care of the weekly meetings, the coordination of the workshops, and organize/ supervise debates. Specifically, I helped advertise, spoke to the school’s leadership team, and booked rooms so that members of STEMinist could perform workshops in medicine, engineering, and chemistry aimed at lower school students. In addition, I held a debate on the legalization of cannabis as this was a topic that deeply conflicted the group in the previous year, and we were able to have productive conversations whilst also honing our critical thinking skills.
Debate club
Founder – 2019 September till 2021 June
I established BISB’s first ever debate club and became the student leader of the club. The club was so popular that it had become the number one sought out co-curricular activity and was filled to full capacity after it one hour of sign-ups. During my time in the debate club, I oversaw debating rounds as well as distribute the groups and give feedback. Moreover, I helped lead activities to strengthen individual’s weaknesses.
Academic and Peer Mentoring
Academic/Peer mentor – 2019 September till 2022 July
My primary role as peer mentor in BISB was to provide support to my mentees by helping to organize timetables and discuss any difficulties they had in class. Later, I helped tutor my mentees in mathematics and biology to help with gaps of knowledge. Furthermore, I tutored in multiple languages to help with students whose second language was English. I was able to continue my work in Sevenoaks with another student.
Art History Club
Co-founder – December 2021
I held presentations about how cubism affected Picasso and Chanel as well as one about Gyula Battyany. Additionally, I organized comprehension tasks after and with my peer we handled the weekly meetings whilst also trying to catalyze debate among our club members.
Catalyst Magazine
Chief Editor – September 2021
As one of the chief editors, I helped lead weekly writing sessions, edited the articles submitted and helped with the production of our termly school-wide science magazine. I also offered my own piece in mycorrhizal communication. In Michaelmas term, we produced a 52 paged magazine which was read by not only students, teachers, and old Sennockians but selected pieces were also sent off to essay writing competitions.
Milestone Institute
Member – February 2020 till February 2021
During my time at the Milestone Institute, I complete 4 three-month long modules in: Academic writing, Biology of the Cell, Biotechnology, and Programming. I was also a member of the Natural Sciences Society where we frequented museums, lectures, and had general discussions with monthly meetings.
Biology Extension
Student – September 2021 till July 2022
I attended the biology extension class to broaden my knowledge in the subject and was fortunate enough to perform experiments to observe the effect of alcohol and caffeine on the heart rate as well as experiments to measure the biodiversity of the Sevenoaks community. Moreover, I held a presentation on autoimmune diseases to raise awareness and share my own interests with my peers.
Biochemistry club
Student – September 2021
I was fortunate enough to attend this club in my school and gain experience in the field. In this time, I executed the steps required for DNA profiling so we could uncover who in the class had the PTC gene. The steps included; extraction, quantification with the use of a centrifuge, amplification using a PCR machine, and gel electrophoresis.

Laboratory assistant
Lendület Laboratory of Systems Neuroscience. During my time at the internship, I mastered handling and behavioral training of experimental mice on complex high-throughput cognitive tasks. More specifically, I executed experiments where mice were trained on operant conditioning paradigm. During the task, using a fibre photometry technique, I helped collect data on the momentary release of acetylcholine and dopamine neurotransmitters. Additionally, I gained experience in transcradial perfusions, fluorescent microscopy, stereotaxic mouse brain surgery, and data analysis in MATLAB. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as 6 lab members were quarantined, I stepped up and took responsibility for ongoing experiments. I managed to collect data from 3-4 mice daily for as long as 5 hours a day while also balancing doing my IGCSEs.

Volunteering
-
Eduspots is a charity organization based in Ghana with two branches: one in literature and another in STEM. They are community based and have local “catalyst” members teaching young Ghanian children in educational hubs. As a volunteer, my two main tasks were fund raising and resource creation. I organized a movie night to also address the internal issue of having a lack of social events in my school. Over 100 people attended the event and I managed to raise approximately £800 while raising awareness regarding EduSTEM’s cause. The money raised went towards STEM camps that worked “for a sustainable future” which resulted in a 10% increase in class engagement from students in Eduspots. That year, all students could join the camp unlike previous years, and they had the opportunity to go on field trips and learn more about fast fashion and recycling. Additionally, I wrote articles and helped edit a yearly magazine. My article was about inspirational women in science which was read by all benefactors and some students of the organization. Moreover, I created challenges which were completed by all students of the education hubs.
