About

As an environmental professional with a Masters in Science, I am returning to school to study digital publishing and design with the goal of developing technical abilities and broadening my skill set. My academic background in Resource Conservation, my former work experience, and my current working knowledge of technical writing and records management make me a unique candidate for this degree. I am excited for the opportunity to learn new ways and methods to communicate information. As a native of North Idaho and long-term resident of western Montana, I have strong ties to the Rocky Mountains, and would welcome the opportunity to continue to work on programs, policies, and projects specific to this region.

Goals and interests

Career goal

As an experienced Natural resource professional, I intend to continue working in the field of communication and environmental planning. My initial academic training prepared me well to enter this field, and I have continued to build on that foundation over time, developing new analytical and technical skills as they apply to my work. I earned a Bachelor of Science in 2002 and more recently completed a Master’s in Resource Conservation at the University of Montana in 2012. Providing information and technical support the public and other professionals in my field is the most rewarding aspect of my work.

Graduate school interests

As a working professional using my graduate degree in Resource Conservation, I coordinate with a team of specialists to edit and revise reports before incorporating them into an Environmental Assessment. This involves checking for accordance with regional laws and policies, rewriting portions of drafts, summarizing contents in a logical order, and compiling the reports into a concise, cohesive final document. This work directly builds upon my graduate work at the University of Montana's College of Forestry.

Outside the classroom

Highlights from my time out of the office include spending time outside in grasslands and forests identifying plants, learning about new areas, and collecting plant specimens. I enjoy preparing plant lists and notes on my findings, and creating botanical illustrations with pen and ink and colored pencils.
