Evan DeLeon

I am a student enrolled at Eastern Washington University majoring in psychology. In such, I am furthering my education at EWU in psychology, with the goal of getting a career within the mental health/social work field. With this, I have a great passion to assist those in need regarding mental health, knowing that such a dimension of health is very significant to that mass of our community. Ultimately, it is my main goal to pursue a career as a mental health therapist, with the reasoning of such resorting down to my main core attributes as a person. Ever since I was a young child, I have taken an immense satisfaction in helping people, resolving their interpersonal conflicts and dilemmas, assisting them in reaching resolution. As I've grown, I specifically have taken a great interest in mental health, deriving up a great passion in stressing its importance in humanity. For too long has mental health been placed on the side lines, being prioritized lower than a vast array of other health factors. For as long as I can recall, as long as someone was physically healthy, had a place to live, and food to eat, they had nothing to complain about. In today's time, this formal mindset is being greatly challenged however, with humanity recognizing that living an optimal life doesn't only equate to its physical needs. In such, we're starting to recognize that our mental and emotional health is just as important as our physical, creating a vast motion in prioritizing it, which I intend to be a part of. As a result, obtaining psychology degrees at EWU is a necessary part in making this life goal possible for me, with me planning to obtain a master's in clinical mental health counseling after I earn by bachelor's degree in psychology.
