Fernando Orellana

I am currently pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Houston, where I have maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA. My academic work has emphasized macro skills, including policy analysis and research skills. I have a strong academic foundation that helps me to evaluate social policies, assess community needs, and advocate for change for individuals, families, and communities. Through my coursework, applied learning opportunities, and employment, I have been intentional in promoting equity and access to care.
Professionally, I am a Certified Community Health Worker and currently work in this role, supporting individuals and families in navigating healthcare and social service systems. My experience also includes my former work as a case manager at a crisis center where I supported individuals experiencing acute distress, trauma, and instability. These roles have strengthened my skills in crisis intervention, advocacy, care coordination, and client-centered service delivery.
Personally, I bring a strong commitment to community engagement and service. I have a plethora of volunteer experiences in homelessness services and with youth that complement my academic and professional work. I am also bilingual in English and Spanish, which allows me to reduce language barriers and provide culturally responsive support to diverse communities. Additionally, my experience and leadership have been recognized through my induction in the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. This honor demonstrates my strong academic achievement in addition to my commitment to service and leadership. Together, these experiences position me to be a successful social worker and contribute to the profession and the communities I will serve throughout my career.
