Goals and interests
- Career goal
I have taught in classrooms from preschool to university, and I intend to continue my career in education!
- Graduate school interests
At present, I establish connections between philosophy, women’s studies, and education to guide the following research in my current master’s program: critical theory’s ability to reveal and confront “residues” of historic gender structures – mostly emerging from 1870 to 1930 in the United States – through the development of feminist pedagogical techniques of empowerment, community, and leadership that transgress systems of power.
I am extremely interested in continuing my examination of the history of gender and its residual values that permeate the structure of experience. By identifying residues of historic representation, I’m curious how the voices of critical consciousness can alter structure. My interdisciplinary research aims to expand the work of feminist pedagogues by interweaving gender, history, phenomenology, and critical theory.
- Outside the classroom
Outside of academics and my career, I am an avid backpacker. Each break, I purchase a plane ticket and spontaneously adventure around the world! Currently, I have solo backpacked through six continents and have nearly traveled to forty countries. Beyond travel, I would consider myself an amateur musician! I play guitar, drums, and sing songs from rock-n-roll to punk or folk.
