About

My statement of philosophic goals in life consists of five small words: to help people feel better. I know from personal experience what it feels like to be injured and be laid up on your back for months on end. I know what it means to endure physical therapy week after week for modest gain. I was not an athlete throughout high school, but I do enjoy competitive sports and I have been active for most of my adult life.
I have been a licensed nurse now for almost ten years, graduating from Galveston Community College in Galveston, Texas in 2005. I have been married now for twelve years and my wife and I have two wonderful, healthy children. I had not been interested in healthcare before having children, but you might say that they, along with my wife, each directly and indirectly opened my mind to the possibility of serving others in health care.
The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know. I have come to understand that life long learning can be empowering. Learning encourages us and equips us to help our families discover the opportunities available to us through the pursuit of education. Being able to teach others how to make that discovery is a valuable skill. I hope that graduating from Fort Hays State University will afford me the knowledge and skills necessary to help people recover through rehabilitation or prevent injury altogether.
In 2013, I graduated from Colby Community College with a certification in massage therapy and an associates degree in general studies. I have since obtained a national certification from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic and Massage Bodywork. In pursuing the philosophic goals I have constructed for my life, I have learned that you are never too old to begin something new. In fact, there are times in life when necessity dictates that new learning takes place. Whether that involves new job skills or becoming familiar with the latest advances in sports medicine, these opportunities for learning are ever present in the field of health and human performance.
My personal goals in regards to health and human performance are not definite. I am very interested in learning about how I can best utilize the skill set that I have now to further my education here at FHSU. My interests in health and human performance have been borne out of my frustration with the current healthcare system. Perhaps becoming a more informed consumer has led to this frustration. In any event, I look forward to continuing the pursuit of health and human performance education here at Fort Hays State University. With the help of experienced staff and friendly students, I believe that I can and will achieve my goals.
