About

I am a single mother of two amazing children. At this time they are a six year old girl and a ten year old boy. I went back to school shortly after my daughter was born because I knew I needed to provide a better life for all of us. I currently am a full time student and mother. I work at an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility and do counseling in a group setting as well as preform the evaluations, intake assessments, and final exit interviews. I have been with the agency for over three years now. I am looking to get my CAP in March after I receive my Bachelor's of Science in Human Services with a concentration in Management. I have an A.S. degree from Daytona State College for Human Services Addictions Specialist. I have a Certificate for Addictions Specialist and Counseling also from Daytona State. When I graduate from the University of Phoenix I plan to further my education and get my Master's Degree in Mental Health. I am willing to relocate for improved opportunities.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I love counseling clients and am moving toward having the ability to work not only with addictions, but with mental health and dual diagnosis clients. Some day I would love to open a facility for individuals with substance abuse issues that have children. The facility would house the parent as well as the children up to age 6. It would provide support for the family, along with education for the family and help keep the parents with the child(ren). We would work closely with Child Protective Services and help the parent with parenting classes, home management, and help them to have a life in recovery from addiction.

Graduate school interests

At this time I am looking into Florida State University for my Master's program, but I am open to anything. I would like to stay in an on line environment due to having an unpredictable schedule.

Outside the classroom

I enjoy swimming in pools, the ocean, rivers, springs, and lakes. I like to paint and hide rocks. I like to fix and build things around the house. I enjoy walks and going to the parks. I love roller coasters and thrill rides. I enjoy traveling and experiencing other cultures. I have traveled to Punta Gorda Belize and done mission trips there. I have visited my birth country of Canada. I enjoy getting lost and exploring new places.
