Goals and interests

Career goal

In an effort to understand autism and its related disorders, I plan on earning a Bachelors Degree in Special Education to develop the skillset needed to teach pre-school aged children with disabilities, with emphasis on early intervention and family understanding. While teaching, I plan on completing a Graduate Degree in Neuroscience or Neuropsychology, with which I will begin to better understand the science behind all neurological disorders. My hope would then be to return to a university to pursue autism research. With classroom experience and expanded understanding of the brain, I aspire to be part of the growing field of autism research so as to not only increase understanding of autism (therefore lessening people’s negative assumptions), but also to demonstrate to the world, once again, that different doesn’t mean bad. By increasing the understanding and awareness of autism, maybe we can begin to view autism as the nine-year-old me did, with the prospect of growth and purpose without the stigmas and negativity.
