About
Hi, my name is Giselle Muniz and I am a first generation Latina currently attending the University of Texas at Austin as a third year Sociology and Spanish major. I have dreams of travelling to Latin America to attending research conferences to present my research on Latinx studies in the U.S.. As an aspiring PhD of sociology candidate, I am committed to gaining research experience to go to grad school one day. I have acquired multiple positions throughout my undergraduate career and I currently have two research assistant positions at the Latino Research Institute.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I would love to be a professor at a high-ranking university one day and go to law school to open a bilingual law firm in Houston.
- Graduate school interests
I want to study sociology with a focus on LGBTQ studies, race, ethnicity, gender, and social/health determinants. I am gravitated to how sociology implements methods gained from the quantitative side of economics to the qualitative side of cultural anthropology which innovates social science to encompass comprehensive narratives of sociological phenomena. I am fascinated by how adaptable sociology is and how open the field is to encompass different methodologies and frameworks in peer reviewed articles and books. I am a huge proponent of learning mixed-methods approaches as I believe that scholars in sociology have successfully bridge the gap between using these quantitative and qualitative methods to further understand the questions in society.
- Outside the classroom
Ever since I was a little girl, I was drawn into illustration and I had to stop when I was 17 so I could focus on my studies. Last year, I rediscovered my art as a powerful tool to communicate messages visually as I constructed zines and artwork for multiple organizations. Additionally, I have picked up creative writing to tell my story as I am inspired by the Latina authors in Texas. I hope to one day publish books not only about my research but of prose and poetry from my own life experiences. I enjoy leisure reading books of poems, fiction, philosophy, history, and prose.
