Link Crew is a nationally recognized program to help incoming freshmen acclimate to high school. I have been a student leader for the last two years, welcoming new students to our campus and introducing them to all it has to offer. As a mentor, I have been able to guide freshmen around the physical campus, show them where various facilities and services may be accessed, as well as conduct ice-breaker activities to get them comfortable with the rest of their incoming class. Once school starts, we continue to offer support through regular meetings and scheduled activities.

As a proud student of Helena Public Schools, I thought it critical to give back to an organization that has given so much to me. The Carnival Classic is a city-wide celebration of public education and kick-off to the new school year. As a volunteer for the last two years, duties have ranged from set up, running booths, games, and clean up. Our Student Council ran a dunking booth, from which we were able to retain 100% of the proceeds. That revenue was then used to fund school-wide projects.

The Intermountain Festival of Trees is a five-day fundraiser that hosts multiple events benefitting Intermountain, a charity organization whose mission is to restore healing through healthy relationships. They partner with community providers including the Department of Child and Family Services, local schools, and other mental health agencies to facilitate true healing for children and their families. As a volunteer for these events for the past two years, I have helped organize and facilitate children’s activities such as face painting, cookie and ornament decorating, bounce-house supervision, and games. I plan on returning this year to volunteer for the full five days.

The Vigilante Parade was founded in 1924 to prevent school violence; this parade has been a family tradition for decades and I have attended since I was a child. More recently, I have been a parade member for the last three years and plan on participating again this year. I have served in building floats, procuring materials and funding for said floats, as well as creating historically accurate and relevant designs. Each year celebrates Western lifestyle and history, and I am uniquely positioned to celebrate this tradition as a fifth generation Montanan and through my own familial ranching history.

and involvement. Our goal is to make all students feel as if they have a place to belong at our school. I have been an active member of our associated student body for four years. In this role I organized student events and activities, such as planning homecoming week activities, multiple dances including winter formal and prom, spirit week, activity fair, and pep rallies. Organizing these events include planning, budgeting, allocation of student and staff resources, and clean up after.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Montana supports, educates, and advocates for Montanans with mental conditions and their families. Statistically, one in five Montana families are affected by serious mental illness, making NAMI’s mission more crucial than ever. The intent behind the walk is to create a supportive community, breaking down stigmas that surround mental health. Raising awareness and funds through this event helps to promote open dialogue, ending misconceptions and fostering empathy. I have participated for four years because mental well-being is as important as physical health and should be treated as such.

Now in its 27th year, The Helena Area Walk to School and Field Day event promotes children's walking and biking safety. The event serves to encourage Helena students, parents, and the general public to increase awareness of school safety, and physical activity, as well as reducing traffic congestion and pollution around schools, all while having fun together. I have participated for four years as an escort to elementary-aged students. After the initial walk to school, high school students stay on elementary campuses to help facilitate field day games and athletic contests.

This club is for schools in and around the Helena area with members competing in the Montana High School Rodeo Association. I have been a member for six years and have served as president for the past three. Being president entails planning and facilitating rodeos in the Montana region for competitors ages 11-18. As such, I have gained extensive knowledge of all rodeo events, handling livestock, and organizing fundraisers to sustain our program. I am also responsible for reaching out to local businesses to raise awareness and support for our program.

State-level rodeo association member for the last four years. As an active member, I compete in state rodeos throughout Montana to collect points in order to qualify for the national competition. I compete in multiple events which include barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, and breakaway roping. These events take place across our expansive state. Such travel offers opportunities for community building, support, and learning, as rodeo athletes must work to not only train and perform themselves, but also to keep their animals safe, healthy, and thriving.

Having been involved in the sport of rodeo for the last nine years, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of skilled coaches and athletes. Rodeo has enriched my life in innumerable ways. Roughly four years ago when a former coach suggested I run my own clinics for younger athletes, I immediately got to work. I coached younger competitors, free of charge, sharing my knowledge of both the physical and mental aspects of the sport. I continue to provide these rewarding opportunities and plan to do so in the future.

As part of my parents’ homeowners’ association, they sponsor a section of highway that they are responsible for keeping free of trash, debris, or hazardous obstacles. Each summer I volunteer to help keep roughly five miles of road clear.
