Hannah Otis

Hi I am Hannah!

You probably haven't met many computer science students who actually began their career in radiography, but here I am. To be fair, I didn't realize that my extensive study of x-rays would lead me to my love for computer science (finding out that AI can read a chest x-ray to almost the same accuracy as a Radiologist.. mind blowing).

I began my college education studying Radiography in Madison, Wisconsin. I even worked at the hospital while in the Radiography program. I have always loved medicine and thought it would be the best path for me. However, things change as we grow older and I found a different passion that I could study formally and informally. My newfound passion was computer science. I left the Radiography program and my job at the UW Hospital to enter a new world full of computer networks, programming, systems architecture, and much more.

I had found my place in the world. My first semester of class I learned how to do basic programming and took off from there. I created a Discord server where all of my fellow CS classmates and enthusiasts share tips, tricks, and other funny things as they deem fit. I am surrounded by classmates and professors with the same passion as myself and that has only built up my confidence.

I started as a peer tutor for computer science classes in the fall of 2020 and love that job more than anything. I love to share my passion of computer science with anyone who will share it.

Currently I am majoring in Computer Information Systems. My concentration started off as data science, but has slowly been changed over to cybersecurity. In any case I hope that in any postion I have in the future I am able to keep exploring my passion for programming, network security, and leadership.

Thanks for taking time to learn a little bit more about me!
