About
Namibian dancer and choreographer Haymich Olivier, received his Bachelor degree at the University of Cape Town in 2008. After which he return to his hometown Windhoek, where he work as a dancer, choreographer, project manager and educator for more than 10 years before enrolling for a Masters program at the University of California, Los Angeles. As an active part of the Namibian Arts Industry, Olivier has done projects for the National Theatre of Namibia, Namibian Annual Music Awards, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture as well as running his own dance company First Rain Dance Theatre. During this time he performed on a number of national and international platforms including Harare International Festival of the Arts (Zimbabwe), Baxter Contemporary Dance Festival (South-Africa) and Windhoek International Dance Festival. His work with young adults has rendered some groundbreaking dance art that is directed at creating awareness of social-economic conditions of marginalized people. As a popular Namibian choreographer Olivier has work with a wide spectrum of dancers ranging all ages from 3yrs to 50yr, it is his artistic philosophy to guide dancers to enhance their understanding of their own ability and give them the needed skill to better communicate and express their lived experience. Due to the lack of professionally trained dancers in Namibia, Haymich's work more often lead him to choreography, this has developed his artistry greatly as well as his leadership skills, however he continued to train his technical ability and completed a Ballet exam even after his studies at the University of Cape Town and was able to participate in training at the world famous L'ecole des Sable in Senegal.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
In my home country support for the arts is limited. The Namibian Government has been in recession since 2015 and with that there as been a significant reduction in Arts Funding, which in return means career advancement opportunities are limited with in the country. With this in mind I envision a career path that has 3 branches or focus areas. As an educator I am to continue my work at The College of the Arts or and tertiary education institution that assist in enhancing the skills of young artist and stimulate a healthy curiosity for their inner and external environment. Secondly as an artist I aim to use my time at UCLA to create an international network of artist that share the same values and use this network to create work in my home country, the USA and abroad that reflect a vision that makes statements about our humanity, our relationship with ourselves, our history and the issues facing our environment. Thirdly my interest in working with minorities (LGBTI community and children with impairments) leads to a desire to advance my activism work and use my artistic and management skills to create awareness around issues that effects the lives of minorities.
