About

My name is Heron Crofts and I was born and raised in Salt Lake City. I was diagnosed with autism at 16 — this somewhat late diagnosis came with a lot of introspection. As I learned more and more about who I was, I began to put more of myself into my art and my studies. My separation from my peers only inspired a deep curiosity into the natural world. I love to learn, so I have created as many learning opportunities for myself as possible, enrolling in difficult classes and participating in science internships. As long as I can remember, I’ve had an affinity for weird art. I believe art is meant to explore the most strange and abstract aspects of the human condition. To me, art is both a method of understanding the self and communicating that self with other people. As an autistic person, typical methods of interpersonal connection are difficult, but not unwanted. Through my creative journey, I have come to learn that my art can connect me to others. I want my art to have a meaningful impact on other people’s lives. I want to know that other people can enjoy my art as much as I do. Continuing my education would further connect me to the art community and the wider world. Art and science are my deepest passions and my biggest joys — it would be a privilege to share myself and my passions with others.
