About
I am a high school senior intending to study business in college with an emphasis on marketing or finance, and a specific focus on the outdoors and environmental stewardship. I believe positive marketing efforts that bring attention to the need to address environmental issues are just as effective as forced policy change in terms of getting people to change their behavior. I also think that not enough attention is paid to the need to make sure that the basic internal workings of businesses (in both for-profit and non-profits) help the organizations achieve their goals.
I missed 119 school classes during my sophomore year due to a concussion suffered in a high school football game, but I fought through it with the help of my parents, doctors, and teachers who all supported me and encouraged me along the way.
I am working on securing my dual citizenship in Italy through my father's family line and instead of taking the typical high school foreign language courses offered through my school district, I opted to take online Italian to better prepare myself for life as a dual citizen. I am also proud of my mother's Norwegian heritage and have enjoyed learning about that culture through the lens of our extended family in Norway, particularly as we volunteer every year cooking in the annual salmon and lutefisk fundraiser dinners for our Sons of Norway lodge.
The world is a big place and I am looking forward to creating my space in it.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I believe in the power of marketing, and I intend to focus my studies on marketing and finance with an emphasis on environmental studies. From the marketing perspective, if we capture the hearts and minds of consumers to educate them in positive ways, we can convince more of them to change their habits and demand policy changes. In this way we will achieve a longer lasting, more sustainable change in behavior that will help us to collectively address the issues facing our climate. Secondly, people do not appreciate the basic business obligations of non-profit entities. If they do not manage their resources properly (cash, endowments, people, volunteers and partnerships), they risk running out of money. A “former” non-profit entity that “was” focused on the environment is of no use to the effort if it is forced to close its doors due to poor management. The unsung heroes behind the scenes managing the operations are as important as the researchers and scientists working on technical solutions. This is where my additional focus on finance will help advance my desire to see positive change for the environment.

Depending on the final field of employment I enter, I envision refining my marketing or finance skills with an emphasis on international relations.
