About

Hola a todos! My name Hugo and I am a second year graduate student at the University of Illinois Chicago. I am currently completing my masters degree for teaching of Spanish language.

I am a first generation Mexican-Korean American and am the first in my family to have obtained a degree from four year institution in the United States as well as the first in my family to attend a graduate program in the States.

This will be my third year proudly working for the Chicago Public School system as a paraprofessional. I value hard work, ethics, community building and the power of public education as it has opened the door to so many opportunities. With that being said, I intend to pay forward the dedication my teachers and mentors invested in me by doing the same for my future students.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I plan on teaching high school level Spanish upon the completion of my degree along with coaching soccer at the high school and travel club levels. I also intend returning for another masters in academic leadership once I've obtained a few years of experience in my future teaching role.

Graduate school interests

This is currently my second year in the graduate teaching program and am looking to obtain funding through scholarships, grants and the Honor Society in order to lessen the financial burdens that come with tuition. Aside from that, I am looking forward to forge new relationships with professors and peers, while also strengthening the ones I made during my first year.

Outside the classroom

- Traveling
- Road trips
- Music festivals
- Museum visits
- Soccer coaching
- Urban/rural excursions with my dog
