About
I am a US citizen, RN, MSN, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo. I have over ten years of experience as a Medical Doctor, working with adults and children. I have cared for patients with acute cases of lower respiratory diseases, malaria, neonatal disorders, sickle cell, HIV/AIDS, girls, and women who were sexually exploited, abused, and raped. I have also treated cases of malnutrition exacerbated by poverty, lack of education, and war.
I have a strong desire to help underserved communities due to my background of growing up in situations of extreme poverty. I chose to become a nurse practitioner so I could be of help to the most vulnerable of society. My experience visiting health care professionals shows that doctors have little time for their patients. Every time I have visited a nurse practitioner, they have spent more time helping and educating me regarding my condition. I mention this not to blame doctors but to articulate how I would like my patients to feel when they come for medical care.
I plan to build my career in the mental health department to diagnose, conduct therapy, and prescribe medications for patients who have psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders, and issues of substance abuse. I plan on working in the US and spending some of my vacation providing healthcare in the Congo and other needy countries. I am passionate about serving impoverished populations to make a difference and impact lives positively.
