About

Hi, my name is Isaac, and I am a heavily ambitious young adult who want to make a difference in the live of other people. My main goal to achieve this is, is to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), which will enable me to directly affect the quality of life for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. If you told me five years ago that this was my career path I would have thought you crazy. See, I always loved the sciences and particularly loved microbiology, so I originally was majoring in biomedical engineering to be a genetic engineer to help people with diseases and genetic disorders. However, when I got employed as a behavioral technician in 2024, I completely flipped my career path. I love my job so much, I excel at it and make a big difference in the lives of people.

I have always loved helping people. I used to be apart of a boy scouts and later a scouting organization called trail life USA, in which we not only gained appreciation for the environment but also our community. We would frequently clean up trash around the city and volunteer at homeless shelter to do odd jobs without expectation of payment. I loved and hated it, I got to hear stories of those who carry regrets, those who have experience, and those who are unfortunate. I loved helping these people, but hated that this was the state of the world. So naturally I wanted find a career that could help people. After exploring my options, I feel confident in my decision to be a BCBA. I am excelling in my studies more than I have ever had in recent history due to how excited I am for what the future holds for me.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I work currently as an RBT (Registered Behavioral Technician), where I am essentially the acting hand of my supervising BCBA (Board Certified Behavioral Analyst). I love the job I work in so much that I want to pursue higher education so I can become a BCBA to help more people and gain more money. The way I plan to go about it is to first obtain a bachelors in counseling and education psychology, after which I have to go a masters college to obtain at least a masters in ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) and appeal to a BACB (Behavior Analyst Certification Board) (it's a lot of alphabet soup) in order to become a BCBA.

Graduate school interests

I am currently enrolled in New Mexico State University for my undergrad. I look to finish my gen-eds and earn a bachelors in counseling and education psychology.

Outside the classroom

I find myself doing a lot of camping/hiking, video games, disc golf, chess, and board games with family and friends.

Experience

  • registered behavior technician

Working as a RBT I have never felt more alive. I had recently found out that this line of work is what I am great at, and has become what I am passionate about now. What I do on a daily basis is play with an individual diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and work in therapies through that play. Specifically I teach my clients daily living skills like brushing teeth to using the restroom, communication skills like saying "I don't like that" or "I am sad", and emotion regulation skills.

  • shift manager

I worked as shift manager and Wendy's which means I had a number of responsibilities for what happened in the store. I learned quality leadership experience from decided where to put specific people to how to teach people skills needed for the job. In order to teach people I had to have a mastery over all the roles and positions in the store, so I also know how to be dedicated. I had to have responsibility for a number of things like order mistakes, even when it wasn't my fault; cleanliness of the store; and money management. I also showed how to think quickly under pressure, quality customer service, and conflict resolution.
