Volunteering

  • I assisted, organized, and passed out gifts to families in need during the holidays. I helped gather items, sort the items for the specific children by size, age, and need. I helped organize the event and assisted in handing the items out to the families.

    Extensions of Grace

    Oct 2021 – Dec 2021

  • I currently work with a non-profit and the place I am employed with to assist in families in the communities food insecurities. Covid has had an effect on many people in the community in many ways. Economically Covid has devastated many families in our community. The center I work at services primarily low-income children and families. These families struggled with food insecurities before Covid occurred, this pandemic has just continued to have a snowball affect on their situations. I saw a need and decided to come up with a way to assist these families. with the non-profit Extensions of Grace, I established a rotating food pantry just like that clothing closet that I currently have. We started out with a non parishable food drive. We stacked and area with the food items and allowed families to take the food items as needed. Families feel the freedom to take the items, but also bring items as they have them. This has kept itself going and has restocked itself so far. However, if there is a time that the food needs restocked the non-profit organization has agreed to stock the food for us.

    Oct 2020 – Dec 2020

  • I created a clothing closet for the preschool that I work for. I started it as a clothing drive for children in need. I added a shelf and a clothing wrack and had it approved by the fire department and the director/owner. The clothing closet became a stability for families. Families brought clothes that they not longer needed and too clothes that they needed to clothe their families. I take clothes that have been there for extended periods of time to Goodwill to allow families to restock the shelves and keep the clothes continuing to come in so families have a variety of what is needed and seasons are changed out.

  • I was a starter on my football team through my junior year. I thrive being a leader with a team. Our team placed second in the state championship. We were recognized throughout the nation or our skill and for our coaches. One of the recognitions that we received was to travel out of state to Florida to play in the 'Game of the Week." We as players had to raise the money to travel. We worked jobs in the community to raise our individual funds. After I raised the amount that I needed for my trip, I continued to raise money for my teammates. I worked throughout the looted time and contributed the money to the be divided amongst those who did not meet their goal. We played as a team, we won as a team, we lost as a team, and you worked as a team. I felt like I couldn't be a true leader if I stopped working and didn't help those that needed help.

    Extensions of Grace

    Oct 2018 – Dec 2018

  • I handed breakfast out to low income children in apartment complexes. I went with my football team every other Wednesday and handed out breakfast to low-income children, played football, and built relationships with the children. It was during this volunteer experience that I decided on the path of my future. As I built relationships with these children and their families I had conversations with them regarding their healthcare and what how they could not take care of their own children because they could not afford to do so. There was a little boy that would be waiting on me every Wednesday that I went and one Wednesday he was not there. When I went to check on him and find out why he wasn't there, I found out that he was extremely ill and that the family did not have insurance and had not taken him to the doctor. They could not afford medication for him. In that moment I knew what field I wanted to go into. I want to be in a field where I can make a difference in people's lives. I want to be able to give back to my community. I want to be able to volunteer in a clinic where parents can bring their children and receive care they other wise couldn't not. I want to make a difference.
