About

My name is Ivory. I am currently in my senior year at Waldorf University pursuing my BA in psychology and mental health counseling. Since entering the program in September of 2021, I have maintained my place and the dean's list each term. Recently, I decided to participate in an additional class through the state of Washington’s Healthcare Authority, to obtain my certificate in peer counseling to add value to my current roles in the community. I volunteer for a recovery first non-profit resource center facilitating support groups for women who are entering recovery as pregnant and nursing mothers. My passions are mental health and addiction recovery, as well as being an excellent mother to my son, Keaton-John. For many parents, there is no way to be a parent without the services provided through therapeutic services and recovery support. I try to remain transparent about troubles I have overcome as continue to serve my community in any way that I can. My education will provide me with further tools to help as well as the means to provide for my family.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My academic pathway is revealing itself the more I learn. It has already evolved a great deal from addiction studies/substance use disorder pathway to a potentially LMHC, or LMFT. I am planning to remain teachable in hopes to find the best direction for me.

Outside the classroom

Spending as much time as I can with my 2-year-old son Keaton-John as I can, as well as family. I hold several service positions in a 12-step program. Celebrate recovery and Sunday services at my church are things I've enjoyed doing more regularly. Regularly organizing donations for local recovery houses. My son and I love to paint and color. I love to advocate for recovery and mental health in the community.

Volunteering

  • Front desk tasks including answering multiple phone lines, greeting members upon entry, entering group attendance for billing, monitoring social media accounts, new member orientations. Also was responsible to facilitate recovery groups and 12-step meetings. This began in February of 2020 and stopped in March 2021. Returned in November of 2022 and am currently volunteering off site, bringing meetings of recovery to a pregnant and nursing mothers inpatient treatment center for START Recovery. We facilitate meetings depending on the needs and requests of the women in the treatment center, supporting them, as well as providing resources to them and attempting to show them how to move barriers in recovery.
