About

My name is Jacqueline S. Harris and I am a graduate student at The University of Southern Mississippi. I am mastering in Higher Education in Student Affairs and I have two semesters remaining before graduating with my Masters' degree in December of 2017. There are several positions to consider when majoring in Higher Education, however I am really interested academic advisement. This will give me the opportunity to mode students into great academic scholars ready to defeat in obstacle they face. I grew up in the small town named Drew, MS where there weren't many opportunities. My parents didn't finish high school, but always encourage my siblings and I to work hard so we could achieve academic accomplishments. I was not aware of scholarships or higher education professionals that I could contact to gain information, but my confidence did not allow me to surrender from my goals. My family and friends motivated me to surpass the negativity surrounding my community. Aside from school and family, I enjoy travelling, shopping, attending church conventions, and reading in my leisure time. I believe in breaking barriers and accomplishing goals that seem impossible. I am currently serving as the News Editor in HESAA, which is an Higher Education Students Affair Association in my graduate program. Overall my goal is to become a dean over a department at an university so I can implement policies and give resources to improve higher education.
