About
For as long as I can remember, music has been an important part of my life. As a child, it was my favorite hobby. Our home was full of music. For most of my life, my father has been a high school band director and a worship leader at our church. This early introduction to music has had a major impact on my abilities, goals, and overall love of the art. This love has transformed my hobby into a fulfilling life passion.
My extracurricular activities currently include band, theatre, and several UIL academic clubs. I feel that my experiences in these activities will help me to achieve high levels of success in my college career as well as my prospective career in music. As a high school musician, I participate in marching band as the head drum major, concert band as the principal French Horn player, Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) All-Region and All-Area competitions. I hope to participate at the ATSSB state level this year. In addition, I have achieved success with the ATSSB All-Region Jazz Band, UIL State Solo and Ensemble, as well as various other community orchestras, camps and other ensembles. These achievements and affiliations have caused me to desire to achieve great things in whatever career path I choose. In addition to the educational aspects of participation in music arts, I have grown as a leader and mentor through high school. I have learned that music connects people of all lifestyles. I have seen participation in our “band family” tear down stereotypes, build self-esteem, and create strong work ethics, not only for myself, but in those I have led and mentored. As a cohesive group, we have learned, together, what it takes to succeed. We've learned team-building and have learned to enjoy each other’s success.
I find that I also have a passion for music theory. Studies have shown a strong connection between success in music to advanced understanding in math and physics. As first in my class, I have found this connection to be true. It has benefited me in my studies. This passion has earned me two Superior ratings in UIL State Music Theory along with two simultaneous Outstanding Performer awards. I credit this achievement to my passion for and my upbringing in music.
Although, music is my chosen career path, I remain undeclared as to a specific area of focus. I feel drawn to Christian ministry, and therefore hope to use music in some capacity of service.
