About

My name is Jamie Porter. I am a recent graduate from Walden University (Feb 11, 2018). I graduated with a Ph.D. in Psychology with a specialization in Forensic Psychology. My focus was to work in federal government and profile dangerous criminals and murders who leave evidence at the crime scene. However, since being in the forensic psychology program, various externships and volunteer experiences, my focus has somewhat shifted to domestic extremism (including counterterrorism efforts) and cyber security (including forensic examinations). Although I am not an IT major, cyber security (dark web, dank web, deep web and shadow web) all work side-by-side with terrorism.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My end goal is to work for the federal or state government working a long side another counterterrorism, cyber security or forensic examiner experts. My Ph.D. dissertation focused on "Media Coverage on Domestic Extremists and the Influence of Police Emotions" and my Ph.D. specialization was Forensic Psychology.

Graduate school interests

Although I've completed all my grad school interests, I've taken steps in getting certified in cyber security so that I can gain more direct knowledge in this area, forensic examiner certification and other counterterrorism certifications.

Outside the classroom

I grew up with many hobbies and different educational backgrounds in my family. My father, when he was alive, was a vietnam veteran who lived in Germany after the war for a little while. When he retired from the military, my father worked at really great company called Boston Edison (at the time, since then the name has changed a few times) as one of the top supervisiors in his department. My mother was a nurse and loved the medical field. Although her dream was always to be a doctor, she was always encouraging and wanted the best for both my brother and I. When I was younger I please piano, took singing lessons, and was able to do many things for those in need. As I grew older, I started to read more books and sew.
