About

My name is Jamie Young, and I am a senior at Montana Tech of the University of Montana. I am a double major in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. I chose these majors because I have always loved math, chemistry, metals, and fire. So I am currently aspiring to become a pyrometallurgist. I have now completed three summer internships. My first internship was at a copper refinery in Amarillo, Texas, where I worked as a lab technician. My second internship was at a smelter in Columbus, Montana, where I worked more as a pyrometallurgist. My third internship was at a technology center in Tucson, Arizona, where I worked as a metallurgist and provided support and research to our mine sites.

When not too overwhelmed with school or work, I like to spend my time hiking, painting or drawing, and playing video games. Of course, I also spend my free time with friends and family.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Because I love math and chemistry so much, I would love a job where I can do the things I love. So I would like to do work similar to the duties I had in Tucson, Arizona. In Tucson I had the opportunity to provide support to fellow coworkers with testing and experiments, data analysis, development of safety courses, standard operating procedures or critical controls. I had a variety of things to do so that I was not sitting at a desk all day.

Graduate school interests

I am currently deciding where I would want to go if I decide to go to graduate school.

Outside the classroom

I love to hike, play volleyball, softball and tennis, draw or paint, and play video games.
